When you tap your Nymi Band to the Bluetooth Adapter or NFC reader, a tap intent is initiated. Taps cannot occur if the BLE radio antenna in the Bluetooth Adapter or the NFC reader does not receive a strong signal from the Nymi Band.
Cause
- The Bluetooth Adapter is defective.
- The received signal strength indication (RSSI) values in the nbe.toml file requires tuning.
- There is no clear line-of-sight, or there are objects between the BLE radio antenna and the Nymi Band. Objects will reduce the signal strength received by the antenna.
- The Nymi Band is too far away from the Bluetooth Adapter.
- The Nymi Band is moved away from the Bluetooth Adapter too quickly.
Resolution 1
- Ensure you are tapping the Nymi Band near the Bluetooth adapter. For iOS and Android devices, ensure that the user taps near the location of the integrated Bluetooth Adapter. If you do not know the location of the integrated Bluetooth Adapter, contact your IT administrator.
- Check that the Bluetooth adapter is inserted into a functional USB port. Insert the adapter into another USB port if the port is defective.
Cause 2
- Tap threshold is too high—The average RSSI tap window never reaches the tap threshold, which prevent tap detection.
- Tap Window size is too large—The average RSSI includes older values from when the Nymi Band was far away. This may require the user to hold their band near the Bluetooth Adapter longer than feels natural to trigger a Nymi Band tap.
Resolution 2
Modify the RSSI configuration to perform one of the following actions:- Lower the RSSI threshold to allow closer-range values to trigger a tap.
- Decrease the window size to ensure recent, close-range readings have a stronger influence on the average.
- On Windows and HP Thin Pro, edit the nbe.toml
file.
- For the Bluegiga Bluetooth adapter, decrease the rssi_tap_threshold value in the [dongle.bluegiga] section.
- For the BleuIO adapter, decrease the rssi_tap_threshold value in the [dongle.bleuio] section.
- Restart the Nymi Bluetooth Endpoint service.
- On IGEL, in UMS, navigate to and reduce the RSSI_TAP_THRESHOLD value. Nymi recommends a value of -42 for more use cases.
