Nymi Band Taps Detected from Too Far Away

Nymi Bluetooth Endpoint detects Nymi Band taps when the Nymi Band is too far away from the Bluetooth adapter.

Cause

The RSSI threshold is likely set too low. While smoothing removes outliers, the RSSI average may still exceed the threshold and falsely trigger a Nymi Band tap.

Resolution

Modify the RSSI configuration to increase the RSSI threshold so that a tap is only detected when the Nymi Band is closer to the adapter.

  • On Windows and HP Thin Pro, edit the nbe.toml file.
    • For the Bluegiga Bluetooth adapter, increase the rssi_tap_threshold value in the [dongle.bluegiga] section.
    • For the BleuIO adapter, increase (specify a value closer to 0) the rssi_rssi_tap_threshold value in the [dongle.bleuio] section.
    • Restart the Nymi Bluetooth Endpoint service.
  • On IGEL, in UMS, navigate to System > Firmware Customization > Custom Partition > Partition and increase (specify a value closer to 0) the RSSI_TAP_THRESHOLD value.
