Nymi Band Taps Detected at Inconsistent Distances

Nymi Band taps are triggered from varying distances of length from the Bluetooth Adapter.

Cause

The window size is too small to smooth out natural RSSI fluctuations. As a result, the average RSSI tap window varies too much to reliably indicate that the user performed a Nymi Band tap.

Resolution

Modify the RSSI configuration to increase the window size. A larger window provides more RSSI samples, which creates a more stable average and helps maintain consistent tap detection.

  • On Windows and HP Thin Pro, edit the nbe.toml file.
    • For the Bluegiga Bluetooth adapter, increase the rssi_windows_tap value in the [dongle.bluegiga] section.
    • For the BleuIO adapter, decrease the rssi_windows_tap value in the [dongle.bleuio] section.
    • Restart the Nymi Bluetooth Endpoint service.
  • On IGEL, in UMS, navigate to System > Firmware Customization > Custom Partition > Partition and increase the RSSI_WINDOWS_TAP value.
